Hall of Fame member David Schwantz of Altura has long represented business in Winona County and the area as a banker at Altura State Bank and Peoples State Bank.
“Life after high school led me down a path of being a mechanic, but I later took a different direction and started a career as a banker,” says Schwantz.
He goes on to comment that the two banks he served were supportive to agriculture and involved in the communities where they were located. Schwantz also notes he worked with “fantastic” employees prior to retirement after 40 years. Dave continues to serve Peoples State Bank as a member of the board of directors,
Schwantz grew up on a farm north of Altura with four siblings. Growing up he learned about the life on a dairy farm that also included sheep, hogs and chickens, and the chores that came with it. His mother told Dave he knew how to drive a tractor before learning to ride a bike.
“All this taught me work ethic at an early age” stated Schwantz.
The former banker still keeps involved with the community of Altura. For 40 years he has served as an EMT on the Altura Ambulance Service, been the treasurer for City of Altura for 30 years and is a member of the Altura Lion’s Club.
