Dale and Clara Newcomb of Winona, longtime Winona County residents, are being honored on the Hall of Fame for their volunteerism in the Winona County area.
“For nearly 50 years they have volunteered their time and efforts to make Winona County a positive place to live, their dedication to Winona County 4-H youth and St. Martin’s Lutheran Church and School has helped foster the success of thousands of youth over the years,” states son Tim Newcomb.
The couple has been married 56 years and raised 4 children – Tammy, Tim, Michelle and Mike. They also have 5 grandchildren with one grandchild still involved in 4-H. Dale was raised on a farm near Nodine and Clara on a “farmette” in Rollingstone.
Dale completed his college degree at Winona State University and worked at Merchants Bank until retirement in 2017. During his years at Merchants Bank Dale represented the bank at the Winona County Fair through the livestock auction. Over the years Clara worked at Peerless Chain, UBC and Sauer Memorial Home.
The family was involved with the Pleasant Busy Bee’s 4-H Club. Dale and Clara still continue to advise the club and be leaders. At the Winona County Fair they could be found in the food stand, helping to set-up and tear down exhibit areas or any other task asked to help with.
